THE ORB & DAVID GILMOUR TO RELEASE ALBUM
The exclusive European Album Launch of Metallic Spheres by THE ORB featuring David Gilmour took place Friday September 24 at Cafe MAMBO, Ibiza.
Metallic Spheres is due for release October 11, THE ORB's Alex Paterson said "It's a collision that's been waiting to happen with Pink Floyd / David Gilmour and THE ORB, orbiting many of the same planets"
There were only three album launches: Ibiza, New York and Los Angeles. Featuring a live set by THE ORB performing Metallic Spheres, followed by a legendary Alex Paterson DJ set, this exclusive Ibiza album launch was a spectacular night of sonic frontiers.
The visionary UK 'ambient/house' collective THE ORB, came to collaborate with David Gilmour after working together on a version of Graham Nash's "Chicago" for a charity project. Youth (aka Martin Glover), a frequent ORB accomplice, was invited to create a remix, and he and Alex Paterson, as THE ORB, were so energised by the task that they continued working until it was an album-length entity. Having asked Gilmour to bring his guitars to Youth's studio in South London to prolong and enrich their new creation, the trio worked up a sonic mixture in a range of styles. Thus, the Metallic Spheres project was born.

No problem Steve.......I kind of thought that this would be on your list of must haves
I read about the album in a newspaper and tracked it down on the web.....should be on sale from Monday.
Theres now an official website too : http://www.metallicspheres.com/
Opinion:.............. I am surprised that two such renowned British artists have done all of their promo launches for this outside of the UK.
Los Angeles, New York and Ibiza ...........but why not London ???????
European launch was in Ibiza which I could understand in June July or August but the season is nearly closed over there and London would have been a much better choice.
Re: THE ORB & DAVID GILMOUR TO RELEASE ALBUM
This album is well worth getting!! Just had a listen to the first "side" and loved every minute of it! The guitar of Dave Gilmour fits in perfectly with the synths and samples of the Orb. It's a more prominant, less treated sound than when Steve Hillage guested on the Blue Room on the UFORB album. (Steve's Glissando guitar is more synthlike than guitarlike anyway I think)
On a slightly different note (but similar none the less) A new Tangerine dream collection came out last month, called An Electronic Journey it contains a massive 10 CD's all for the silly price of £11.99 (Amazon)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Electronic-Journey-10cd-Tangerine-Dream/dp/B003Z5BS1W/ref=pd_rhf_shvl_4
This 10 CD set contains these albums: (all post 1990 I think)
Seven Letters From Tibet
Starbound Collection
Silver Siren Collection
Ocean Waves Collection
Transsiberia
Cyberjam Collection
The Dante Song Collection From The Divine Comedy
Canyon Cazuma
Tangines Scales
The Independent Years
