Black Widow (GS) -- is UP
Black Widow
Much more attitude on vocals in this one.
Rhythm Guitar is the SG through the Marshall
Lead is the Ibanez X through the Line6 with some phaser
Also using Mixolydian scale for the lead riffs, which gives a different flavor.
this is the sound I was looking for
use your eyes and use your body
deadly as a heart attack
use your lips and dance around me
that'll keep me coming back
feel the heat yeah feel desire
just embrace your inner fire
use your smile to get in my head
catch me in your spider web
you are dark and you are lovely
you can be the one and only
if you let me stand beside you
I will let you taste my blood
wrap your lovely legs around me
kiss me deadly once again
I will show you of the future
endless passion ain't a sin

Z...You have raised the bar on this one. Menacing rhythm guitar with a driving beat and the lead guitar sounds really cool with the effects added.
All fits together in another great song with Zappa like vocals giving it your unique sound.
Very Cool song indeed.

Black Widow...WOW...What can I say...it totally rocks. Frank Zappa meets Black Sabbath is the nearest thing I can think of ....very Cool.
Z .....the adjustments you have made have really worked well IMO.
The drums are now solid and driving the music.....makes it Rock much better
The effects on the lead are creating a much better mix and make the whole track sound much more alive and interesting.
You have certainly raised the bar and more importantly you now know how to use it to progress.....great work Z....Very well done

With lots of help from you.... (on the lead sounds and percussion)
and I got the "attitude" on vocals from Dace.
Glad you like it. This is the sort of thing I want to do on the next album.
In fact it might be the title track...

Re: Black Widow (GS) -- is UP
Smart idea Z......do that and the next album will be a killer
Assume you will make an album to that format instead of a mixture of styles?
I think that would be the best thing to do

Absolutely. Instead of a different style for each song, I will stick with this sort of a style.
(Heavy Rock Drums, SG on rhythm, X on lead, aggressive vocals,....).
I think it's easier on the listener than my constant flipping from one extreme to another.
which doesn't mean I will use the same drum loops for each song, but I won't be mixing in
world drums and such.
Might look around for more hard rock and metal drum loops. The ones in this song are from the Acid loops
Dace sent out the link about.

Re: Black Widow (GS) -- is UP
As far as drum loops go it might be better to write your own if you can find a kit with the right sound.
I have recently gone back to using my old Zoom RT323 because it has a great selection of kits particularly for any type of Rock or Metal. I used one called Epic Rock on the collab.
The basic beat is easy to write and with a little time spent fills are not hard to program.
I don't use the patterns....I just use the kits and write it in Sonar (or any MIDI sequencer)...that way I get full control and I can add cymbals or drop drums out in places.
I am sure that you can find a similar sounding kit in your Alesis
It is well worth spending the time rather than using other peoples loops ....you get much more control and your own style will develop.

Good idea. I have lots of kits built into Logic and some of them sound pretty good.
I just don't know much about programming drum patterns.
But I'll give it a shot.
Might need some hints from you on fills and stuff.

Z.....Read this for a start
http://www.tweakheadz.com/how_to_make_original_drum_tracks.htm
Another option is to Google for free midi drum loops.......most of the sites that sell them have giveaways as well.
Here is 460 free patterns including fills:
http://www.fivepinpress.com/drum_patterns.html
A midi drum loop will be a small midi file that you can just copy and paste into the bars on your sequencer....you can even alter it and its up to you which kit you use although you may have to adjust which sounds are being played.

Re: Black Widow (GS) -- is UP
Cool! Thanks Peter!
Yeah I am familiar with midi and transposing and stuff.
Just need to put together some parts I can build off of.

Re: Black Widow (GS) -- is UP
That tutorial was great! That's kind of how I was doing it before.
I found a nice sounding Kit here: http://www.samgreene.com/drupal_samgreene/sams-sonor-samples
It turns out that I can put new kits right into my sampler EXP24 that comes with Logic Audio.
And I can use something called Chicken System Translator to convert other types of instrument files into EXP24 format.
Next Gotham Steel track will have totally programmed drums.
(which will take me awhile, but it will be fun).
Then Peter can tell me how it sounds and what to work on.....
