Badwater AXL Distressed Guitars
Here's some real kickass guitars at a superb price around 199$ US.....and they have EMG designed PUPs.
BADWATER SRO
With a distressed body and antiqued hardware, Badwater Series guitars look and feel of ancient artifacts. These shocking guitars are equipped with alnico pickups for hard rocking tones and clean delivery. Even the headstock and backplate have vintage distressing. No area was spared from the destruction. Badwater guitars have a one-of-a-kind style and excellent playability.
The crackle brown/white finish has a reptilian texture throughout its body. The off-white finish has a rusted, phantom-like appearance. The brown finish model has the look of a museum-quality guitar stored away for decades. The crackle blue finish looks like it was pulled deep from the ocean floor. The crackle black finish evokes the texture of a guitar blackened and burned by lightning.
The Badwater Series has received Guitar World's December 2007 Gold Award for Overall Value.

SSSSSSSOOOOOOO Funny you post this...I had been looking into these guitars. Then it HIT me! I can do this with used beatup guitar bodies..
I dont care for there styles...But AM taking from there idea.
Also when I re-build i end up witn extra parts..Thinking of aging them outside. If they cant be clean very well. Aging them would be FUN..
But,yes...I COPY these guys soon in my own way..
I have stayed away from beatup guitars..now i dont have to.
You can take a BEAT body, Steel wool it down smooth, then clear it...Like FENDER does. They look BEAT, but there smooth in feel...

Re: Badwater AXL Distressed Guitars
HOLY CRAP!!!!!!
Just found a shop in the UK that has these guitars at a Clearance price.
£89 GB + £12.50 postage.....total £101.50 GB ......thats about 160$ US.
You could pay that for a decent pickup !!!!!!!
I'm afraid my heart ruled my head and although I didn't want to spend any more money I just had to order one.
Hopefully have one by the weekend in Black Crackle Finish.......Cool .....another one in the collection.

Excellent Idea DACE.....there is a demand for these at the moment
Re: Badwater AXL Distressed Guitars
Yeah there is a guy up here in Minneapolis doing those too.
He makes BIG MONEY doing it!
He does re-creations of Stevie Ray's SRV and stuff like that.
I will try to find a link to his site
I think you would be DAMN GOOD at Building Dace's Damnation Specials....
Here's a couple links:

Pickups are specially designed for AXL guitars by EMG.....its a standard Strat design tremelo.
Body is alder with a maple neck and rosewood fingerboard .....all suitably aged.
These guitars have had fantastic reviews and are a bargain even at the full price.
List price in the UK should be £149 GB but I am paying £89 GB.......How could I resist
Check out the video I posted ......it sounds really good......I'll get it to sound even better with my Korg processor
Been thinking about adding a Strat to my collection and this fitted the bill nicely
Pics will follow once I have it here....and probably a demo of some sort next week.
Here's where I got it:

Re: Badwater AXL Distressed Guitars
Just got an e-mail from the shop telling me that I bagged the very last one and it is in the colour I ordered....Black Crackle.
The guy in the shop also added that out of the ones he has seen this is the best finish.
Looking forward to getting it now

Re: Badwater AXL Distressed Guitars
I think you will be VERY suprised and happy with the guitar Peter.
Look at ALL the big-name companies, They ALL make very low-cost-guitars that happen to play and sound just geart! In talking 150-200 $ guitars from Squier/Epi/Ibanez, on and on. EVERY time i pick one up im very STOKED about how good they are for the money.
IF! I was one with "money", i would own very few high$ guitars, and 1000s of cheaper ones..
The Badwaters offer more than than the big-names do at this price, and they have no "name-brand" to "ride" on, so you WILL get a good guitar. 85% SURE of that!
HELL! im excited as shit for you to get it.

Re: Badwater AXL Distressed Guitars
I liked that one too
There were only 3 showing when I ordered....Black Crackle, White Distressed (like Paul played) and the Brown .
In fact the Black was the only one left in Stock....which is OK because that was the one I wanted.
The picture on the site is not too good and I have seen other pictures that show the Black Crackle better.
The markings are more like the Blue Crackle .....which I also like.
It has been despatched but it didn't come today so maybe tomorrow.....or Monday. Depends if they deliver Saturdays.
Re: Badwater AXL Distressed Guitars
Shape is similar to the Aria .....Ibanez and a lot of the Japanese guitars use that shape so that they can avoid making them too close to Fender patents......They don't want a lawsuit !!!!!

I dont really think anyone cares about having there shape like Fenders anymore. Thats been out for years now. An IBANEZ body is SO much cooler than a FENDER, and they know this. RGs, S, all theres are so much better. (in person) that is.
An RG is aBIG thick body, then the S is very small and thin....Nothing alike, both very popular, and nothing at all like FENDERs.
Most time you got to see a guitar in person.
And as far as i know, theres no prob on copying a start shape??? And i mean DEAD ON copies.

I looked at that today.....its based on a Jazzmaster....same body shape as a Jag.
Its not a true copy though....there are lots of differences ......but it looks nice with P90 PU's.
They also do it in silver.
Have a look at the new Squier modified Jaguar too.....thats nice.
Got my AXL today and it looks much better than the photos show. I will try to take some pics tomorrow as I have to charge up my camera batteries. Pictures don't do it justice because the whole body has a texture and you can only appreciate that Crackle finish when you actually feel it. All of the crackle lines are ridges and the paint is matt so it feels a bit like an animal skin ....like leather.
The overall look of the guitar is as though it has been pulled out of a fire.....all the plastic is yellowed and brown and the metal parts all look like burnt copper.
I would be quite happy to just hang it on a wall and look at it because its so cool
I will also give a review of what I think of it.....been playing it today and theres some good sounds to be had with the Korg.
