No Cover Band by Thaedeus

I know you don't understand
what it's like to be your own man
hell yeah I own my own land
and I ain't no cover band

I know you don't understand
I know you don't understand

there ain't no money in it
there ain't no money in it
there ain't no money in it
there ain't no money in it

it's just like squeezing blood from a grape
it's just like turning love into hate

I know you don't understand
what it's like to be your own man
hell yeah I own my own land
and I ain't no cover band

I know you don't understand
I know you don't understand

there ain't no money in it
there ain't no money in it
there ain't no money in it
there ain't no money in it

I know you don't even know
what it takes to bare your soul
to open up and let it flow
and where you land, nobody knows

I know you don't even know
I know you don't even know

there's nothing better than the flow
there's nothing better than the flow

there ain't no money in it
there ain't no money in it
there ain't no money in it
there ain't no money

I know you don't understand
what it's like to be your own man
hell yeah I own my own land
and I ain't no cover band
I know you don't understand
what it's like to be your own man
hell yeah I own my own land
and I ain't no cover band

Did this in a hurry... between chapters...
Mix is a little rough, and I think I bent the strings out of tune a couple times.
but it sounds good loud.

Great......love the lyrics and I think we can all identify with them 100% Smile

Considering you made this in a hurry it sounds cool.

Obvious points and some maybe not so obvious.....

Great pounding riff from the distorted guitar reminds me of Iron Man by Sabbath....and the drums are good on this track too.

Vocals are fine ......very much in your usual style but I would have liked to hear a single vocal rather than a doubled up track. Maybe use the doubled up on the chorus only. I think some experimentation like that would work. You can do the single vocals.....you did one recently with a distortion effect on the voice.....that would work here perfectly.

Lead guitar is too high in the mix and a bit too prominent.

You have two extremes here.....very distorted which fits the song type....and a way too clean lead that is dominant.

Take a tip from DACE......use the Strat instead of the Tele with a lot of compression. That should work real nice.

Hope you can find time to look at this and hope it helps.

Those lyrics could be a FOS anthem Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile

Thanks. peter!
I agree all the way Cool

Glad you like the words. I forced them
in a bit since they were written independent
Of the music.

I'll touch it up on the next mix.
This mix is just #2

Heavy guitar and drums are working super together here!
I myself love the layered vocals, but i understand what Peter is saying.
LOVE the vocal sound!
Guitars blend fine with me. Again i see Peters point tho. But im liking this alot.
(To me) its PERFECT Z music really..All elememts are there, and it sounds Awesome to me.
Its all subjective stuff....Every listener hears different things they like.
What Peter said is dead on, and would be good changes, but for me, love it as is.
Its what it is, because of what it is. Changes, will only change it to something eles...Where does that end??? I say carry over advice to the next tune,,Thats what i do anyway.

Cut-off soon...be around till then.

Cool tune Z..Smile

Thanks Dace!

Yeah, I always loving hearing what you guys have to say.
It's pretty rare that Peter or you suggest something I don't agree with.
Sometimes I go back and sometimes I forget....

Just happy to have some real good advice from musicians I trust!

That's what you get here and why we are different.

I try to tell you what I hear and what I think is possible in my opinion.

DACE is right ..... it is subjective and it is up to the artist whether they make the changes or carry the advice over to new material.
Also you may not always agree with what is said which is fine......its your music and your style....and there is no right or wrong.

Outside of FOS a lot of people mistake advice for criticism but all you will get here is honest advice.

Its always useful to get an understanding of how your music sounds to another musician who can offer their viewpoint............but it has to come from those whose opinions you trust.

We have all earned that right here over a period of time and through appreciating each others music.

That is what FOS is all about..........Trust and Co-operation built through friendship. Smile

This one really rocks Z!! Great lyrics too. (to me, very Dace-like in sentiment)
Guitars, well you sure can play 'em!!! Smile Love the heavy distorted Sabbath sound, and the lead, whilst "In yer face" is a joy to hear (but maybe not quite as loud!!) LOL
Vocally, classic Z style except for the spoken bit..........

"it's just like squeezing blood from a grape
it's just like turning love into hate"

This spoken style I think you could devellop into a really good song structure for future use. (does that make sense?)
Anyways, sorry I've not been around much lately to listen to everyones music. Life has a habit of getting in the way! LOL
Just come back from a 2 day break in Bristol attending my Daughter's Graduation from University.

Thanks Steve!
I appreciate the listen!

I was indeed kind of singing from Dace's point of view for part of it.

No worries on the time. This month has been killing me for time. Too busy to even think.

Pass on our Congrats to your Daughter!
