Are you in the....World News?
This is pretty ingenious....
There's this website called, World News, and, when you type things into the search engine interesting news pops up about the subject.
These results grab everything related to a search from You Tube, arrange them neatly as a menu down the right side, and has the first video on the results list embedded too... then, there's 2 more results from searches....all You Tube video results with the search phrase entered, and 8 pages of links around the web attributed to your search results.
I tried it, and, wow...I'm pretty impressed....
Check it out....
ZEFULDAR HAS MADE WORLD NEWS.......

Isin't this fun?
Are you in the World News?
Report your results here :-) (if you wish)
Peace,

I'm there too

Found myself there a couple of weeks ago when I was doing the usual 'Google my name to see if anyone's ripping off my songs....' I found one site offering free downloads of songs they'd ripped from my Youtube videos (I can tell because the videos have an extra bit at in the intro ), but to be fair, when I emailed them to find out how many downloads they'd had and where I should send the bill, they removed them from their site

Hi Paul,
Thank you for the latest news from;
http://wn.com/Protect_the_Dolphins_in_the_Moray_Firth_Paul_Oakley
The petition is now closed, however, many people did sign
I hope your efforts continue to bring awareness and peaceful activity to those whom we must strive to save. Your community has done an amazing job of helping many in need.
As for your other news....wow, when I wrote that World News was ingenious, I had no idea how truly useful this web tag gathering tool would be. I am glad you found it to be useful too.
There are websites that allow people to download the audio of a You Tube video to MP3. However, I enjoy the BeeMP3 route myself Look, the site even made World News http://wn.com/beemp3
But I would never sell someone's music for money or favour...ever.... That's despicable behavior. Good thing you found them...through, World News
Take care and thank you for sharing your...... WORLD NEWS.....with us all....
By the way....this video is awesome....

Re: Are you in the....World News?
Hi Zest,
Thanks for posting the link to the 'Final Sunset' video The site I stumbled across with my music was a Napster type of site, but not the legal type - they didn't say they'd ripped the music from Youtube but just offered it via another sign up site. There's always someone out there trying to rip you off, it's just a case of trying to minimise it and at least they took notice of my email to them
We got 581 signatures for the dolphin petition, which was pretty good seeing as we're not part of any organisation! We've sent it off to the government agency that are dealing with it and now we just have to hope they see sense... the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society are also doing something, so hopefully there'll be enough voices shouting loud enough on behalf of the dolphins. Thanks for all your help publicising it (and thanks to everyone who signed the petition!), we'll keep you up to date with anything we hear.
Good to hear from you!

Re: Are you in the....World News?
I have looked at the problem of tracks being ripped and come to some conclusions.
If you stream tracks in audio or video online then you cannot stop those who are determined to get a free DL.
There are lots of different pieces of software out there which can extract audio from any type of flash player whether its audio or video.
I have used a flash player recently on my Darkstarcruiser site that helps by changing the file so that a downloader cannot find an mp3.
You still cannot stop the most determined people as they can just record it direct from the soundcard using either an external recorder or recording software.
Perhaps the only answer is to either only stream a part of a song as a clip or to stream at a low quality rate or in mono.
Or not to stream at all !!!!!!!
I guess the whole point is that those who are that determined will never pay for a track or album anyway.......but I think its probably a low percentage.

As long as the people stealing the tracks aren't then re-uploading and sharing those tracks with everyone I
think it's small potatoes. It's going to happen. No way to prevent it.
As long as we build a fan base and sell enough tracks and albums, the illegal downloaders shouldn't be much of a problem.
Frankly most illegal downloads are probably of "well known top 40 bands" tunes. God willing we will never be well known OR Top 40
I like the idea of streaming at 128bit. That way they can hear the whole song,
but will get a much better sound quality by buying the CD or download.

Re: Are you in the....World News?
Yes it is just small potatoes and really not much of a problem.
Just bear in mind though that 128k is the normal DL size used in an mp3player which is where most peoples tracks end up. Using a bigger bit size needs more space.
In fact I think that I-Tunes paid DL's and certainly some of the other paid downloads are only sold at 128k.
Like I said in another thread......try giving the tracks way as a free DL and you will probably find that nobody wants them !!!!!!!

Ouch! No wonder I don't like iTunes. 128k sounds like crap (well cymbals and such do).
I never use less than 192k and 320k if I have the space.
These days, when MP3 players start out with 8Gig of space you would think people would rather have
music that sounds the way it was recorded, but I guess most people don't know the difference....

Since most of the kids listen on their cell phone to Rap, Hip Hop, and RnB increasing the bit rate from 128k to 320k would make no difference at all. Crap is Crap whatever quality it was recorded at!!! LOL

Re: Are you in the....World News?
Hi Pete,
I agree and accept that you can't stop people ripping from video, and it's true the quality is pretty low - also, where I offer downloads for sale (my website, iTunes, Amazon etc) you can only hear a 30 second clip. What I was trying to stop is what Z was saying - it's not the individual ripping the audio, it's when a website does it and advertises my songs (along with everybody else's) for free download. Free that is as long as you join their website, where they are no doubt getting lots of advertising revenue and so making money out of other peoples music
I know Amazon is variable bit rate (160-192 I think) but i thought iTunes was higher... the dowload from my website is currently 192 but I've been thinking of upping the quality - I'd much rather I sold the CD though even if the net return is lower and it's more hassle to post out, as I want people to hear my music at the highest quality - I spent long enough mastering it
Anyway, I haven't been around much lately, but it's good to hear from you

Thanks for joining in Paul! I completely agree!
When other people are profiting off your work after stealing it in the first place. That's low!
Hell we aren't asking that much for our blood, sweat, and tears. The least they can do is
say "Hell, that was damn good!" and most of the time we don't even get that.

Hi Paul,
Good to see you around again
I understand exactly what you are saying and I totally agree with you.
Getting a free DL is one thing but these people are infringing your copyright.
Are you a PRS member? If so they may be able to help.
Re: Are you in the....World News?
Hi guys,
I'm going to try and be around a bit more (how many times have I said that before )
I am a PRS member, but to be fair to the site in question, as soon as I emailed them telling them to remove my songs they did, although it might have been because I asked for details of downloads and where I should send the bill

Be good if you do drop in more Paul but we all know you're a busy man
You were lucky to get them to act on that.....a lot of these sites are based in Russia and the laws don't seem to apply there (unless you have contacts in the Russian Mafia)
I heard of someone a few years ago whose band suffered identity theft as well as having copyright infringed. Its just incredible what can happen.
I have some problems with the Global Trancemission name as there was a Global Trance Mission around before I used the name and later than me there were a series of albums called Global Trancemissions put out by Ferry Corsten.
This leads to confusion sometimes when on places like Amazon and I-Tunes things get put together as they cannot tell the difference.
You can see the problem if you look me up in the World News.
I don't worry too much about it and as far as the UK goes I am registered with the PRS under that name.
Re: Are you in the....World News?
Hello all
WOW, I really appreciate all the valuable input and personal experiences you all have about this copyright infringement topic. You are all at the heart of independent music scene, and, your views are very important and meaningful.
The World News provided a few videos etc... from the search term, Music Pirating....
http://wn.com/music_pirating The first video, Pirating Music, is a guide to this whole mess....very informative indeed.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alFr1yXS5Bs
If you want to see how many people "like" to rip music from You Tube videos, check this FaceBook page out.... www.facebook.com/Video2mp3 This "service" has 116,922 people that like their audio ripping service....and growing...
http://www.video2mp3.net/
If you believe that people only want top 40 musicians music...think again....People also like independent and unsigned musicians music also....probably because your music is much more honest and authentic.
It's come down to people listening on mobile devices, as was pointed out earlier in this thread...and the quality of sound they are listening to these days is below par for high fidelity. It seems if they like your music, lyrics, performances etc...and want it...there is a way for them to rip it off....
Low bit or hi bit...they almost all sound the same on a cell phone or laptop etc....
It's such a shame because I know how hard all of you work to achieve the best sound possible for your music...and then people listen to your music on cheesy "speakers". I still have a stereo at home, and enjoy high fidelity....I almost always listen exclusively to independent musicians....
It's a changed world....and with it changing expectations of quality....
Thank you all for your friendship and camaraderie...simple rules...don't put up a full song on the internet at any bit rate if you want to protect your music from piracy....
Take care all, and keep letting us know about your World News....
Peace and respect,
Zest
P.S. Yes, I do see the problem.... http://wn.com/global_trancemission very confusing indeed....

Good points Zest - I've reported that Facebook page as aiding and abetting theft but i won't hold my breath....
I know exactly what you mean about the name problem Peter... there's another Paul Oakley who I didn't find out about until I'd already got a bit of an internet presence myself. I didn't think it's a major problem as he's in a strict Christian/Gospel genre and hadn't done anything for 4 years, but now he's brought out a 'best of' CD. He also has a few other CDs and we're both on the same iTunes, Amazon, Napster and Last FM pages. I was really p*ssed off when I found out about him as I'd already promoted myself on all the usual sites. Now I'm wondering if I should change my name, but I don't want to throw away all the hard work and time I've spent building my name up... I think I'll wait for him to take me to court and get some extra publicity

Sounds like a good plan Paul.....anyway why should you change the name you were born with
Maybe he's heard your music and is hoping to cash in on your talents
