This looks kinda cool....
Might be better off doing this and completely customizing the body art
than buying a used SG that's all beat up....

Looks cool if that's what you want.....and they have lots of other parts and accessories on the site .........and there are upgrade options for the pick ups.
However...............a beat up old guitar is often the one that will have the killer tone that you want and the playability.
Guitars get better with age...........new guitars can be nice and its personal choice.........getting a good oldie would be my choice.........even if its a copy.
My guess is that DACE would say the same...........be interesting to hear his view.

Yeah, I know what you mean.... I'm looking....
but I have a strange set of requirements that is hard to find.
It's kind of a FIRST CONTACT thing with me.
The moment I touch a guitar, I can feel something.
Before I even play it.
That feeling is often overruled by problems with the neck or issues
not easily fixed.
But that's exactly how I found the Telecaster. And I was lucky that the original owner
was a bass player (which means he didn't play it that much).
You have a good point though.
Aged wood is generally better. And it's possible to find vintage pickups in an older guitar
that would cost more than this kit today.
I usually look around for months before I decide anything....
Good advice Peter!

Yeah.....guitars are very personal things that you have to pick up and play to know what you feel about them.
You don't get that with synths..........even vintage ones although they do have character too.
No its a personal relationship with a good guitar......a kind of love affair.
I've owned the Jaguar for 30 years now.....I haven't always liked it and used other guitars for long periods of time .....but I still go back to it and appreciate it even more each time I do.
There just is nothing that I could ever afford that could possibly replace it.
Made in the original Fender Fullerton works in 64 was when Leo Fender was still the boss and all the guitars were made on the bench.....no mass production.
Also the best quality woods were still available in plentiful supply in those days.
Unless you got another quality vintage guitar how could you replace it?
Some of the ones you see for sale are not 100% originals......there are lots of checks that have to be made if you ever look at buying an old Fender guitar.
I guess I am just very, very lucky to own it.

Yep, you are. Lots of guitar players still kick themselves for 'the one that got away.'
I've never really owned a "vintage" guitar. I like the sound of old and new, and mostly
care about playability and 'karma' (for lack of a better term).
But any day I might stumble upon the right one.... in a pawnshop, garage sale, craigslist,....

Re: This looks kinda cool....
Totally!
I used to do a lot of customizing (mostly the controls and wiring).
I need to find the picture of my Peavey where I had 12 switches in the damn thing.
I could put any half of any humbucker on and off and in or out of phase with any other half.
It was cool, but after a couple beers I couldn't figure out how to work the damn thing...

You don't get that problem with a Telecaster
Re: This looks kinda cool....
Might have to just get a vintage piece of mahogany (just the wood), and make
a totally custom FLYING Z.
I'll draw a picture....

Yeah, I didn't realize they made those with all the parts included....
There is another site where people are just selling "Project Guitars"
those are mostly old beaters, that people buy and fix up.
It's here: http://projectguitar.net/
Like these sorts of things: http://projectguitar.net/gibson-guitar-projects/2005-gibson-usa-sg-standard-body-neck-project-guitar-2/
But if I was going to go that route, I'd try to find an older one...
