That's the thing about the internet...
Turn your back for a second, and you miss something important.
Catch the beginning and the end but miss the middle.
I miss what we had. When we were all hiding from the real world
online. When we were all crying out for someone to care.
I like to think I'm still there sometimes.
God Damn there are some friends I miss.

Would you like to expand on this ????
Are you talking about the Anubes or something else.....maybe I missed it?
It's obviously something that touched you deeply so if you wish to keep it private then I understand.
Just remember....All things must pass and nothing is forever.
I lost my job and my income but they couldn't take my spirit away.....in fact a lot of the time I actually feel liberated. Maybe I will feel different when times get harder....but life has to keep rolling on and we often have to just have faith.
Re: That's the thing about the internet...
I'm alright Peter. I was just in a mood.
When Mix sank, it was like I was on a liferaft with 50 of my best friends.
Then one by one, they vanished.
Either they just vanished, or they got in a fight online and vanished, or whatever....
It is frustrating--since I am very thick-skinned--to see people upset by things I
would just brush off.
I've been rejected by the best: girls, editors, musicians,.... It doesn't bother me.
My self-confidence and self-worth is bulletproof.
So I have a long list of people I miss. Some dead. And some might as well be.
Glad you are looking forward Peter. To your new lease on life.
Your attitude is refreshing.
I'm ok.... Just heard from a friend. A really good one. Made me smile.

Glad you're OK....we all have dark days and we all have different ways of dealing with it.
I understand what you mean about Mix. Before Mix I was on the original Besonic which had a good community spirit and a lively forum. The site collapsed....just like Mix with no warning and left everyone devastated.
Mix started about the same time and lots of Besonic artists went there.
When Mix collapsed it seemed to scatter everybody into all directions and I think a lot of these artists stopped using the OMD's.Also there are now so many small OMD's out there and the communities are all isolated from each other. Also more people starting using Myspace instead.
Personally I hate Soundclick (although I use it for the widgets) and I don't like the current Mixposure at all as it is not very good for electronic artists.
If you find an OMD that you like then it's fine for getting feedback and networking with other musicians but you will always get those who want to be top dog and have an ego problem. Too many of those will then ruin a good site.
I have also never sold any music through an OMD but I am selling tracks regularly through i-tunes ,amazon etc through CD Baby. That gives me the feedback I need by checking my sales.
It's a real bummer though when you get used to people and they dissappear right off the radar. It makes you feel lost and you even wonder whether they actually cared in the first place. I too have been let down many times.....in fact so many that I lowered my expectations and take it that all things on the net have a limited lifespan.....probably including myself although I have been posting music since 1999 !!!!

Re: That's the thing about the internet...
I started much later than you. I think I posted my first song in 2004 (although I had been
playing guitar for many years and recording some instrumental work to 4-track before that).
Now each site has its purpose to me. SC is just a place to keep my stuff. I've never been in the forums
there for more than a few minutes.
I have sold CDs on Cafe Press, and Kunaki (currently AtomicForceRecords links to Kunaki for sales), and iTunes (via TuneCore).
I like popping into the Radio Shows on Mix and/or IMW from time to time. It's cool having a live radio show with
all the listeners in interactive chat.
And I like this place, for just hanging out with close friends. (which is what Anubes was for me too).
I did get burned badly at Anubes--but not the fault of anyone there. I posted a lot of dark, true stuff there
and the wife was reading it all behind my back.... long story. Caused me some hardship.
Glad you are here Peter. It makes a difference.
And I totally know what you mean about OMDs and Electronic Music.
The same can be said of Experimental Music. OMDs are HEAVILY tilted toward traditional song structures and
Rock with vocals.

Re: That's the thing about the internet...
Glad to be here Z
It's refreshing to have an intelligent conversation without all the hassle you get elsewhere.
I've been there in the flame wars way back and some people get really uptight about nothing usually because they can give criticism but can't take it.
Never bothered me.....people take my music or leave it alone....I don't care.
Just wish there was a bit more activity here..............but not too much LOL !!

Yeah.....crazy days.........that's where the infamous Di Carlo got started
Can you remember Tullman...........the man who insulted everybody's music and claimed he was a music teacher. We had some real fun winding him up....he deserved it !!!!
I still miss my old friends Itchie Cat and Bubba Blues........both really great guys to have around to cheer you up.
I think those kind of OMD's are now long gone as the whole internet scene is changing. Only Soundclick remains in that kind of format and there is still a mean attitude in the forums there as always.
Much better to just talk to a few friends like here or in the old Anubes
Re: That's the thing about the internet...
Oh yeah, I remember DiCarlo. He was fun to poke with a stick.
I missed the BeSonic days... started out on Mix in about 2004...
Last place I saw Itchie was SongPlanet I think....

Bubba was on the old mixposure. Last I heard from him he was not posting anymore because he was playing with a Blues band instead and enjoying it. That was about 3 years ago.
Re: That's the thing about the internet...
