Thanks Ginn. I'm real poor too so it's a relitively cheap holiday. Wales is attached to England and it's only a 2 hour drive away to our first of 5 hotels.
Re: Holiday
that is cool...we have historic stuff here too, but nothing like castles and that. i hope to take a little trip down south again this summer, or fall. i'll see how everything goes. i love to travel...really would like to visit europe some day though. england and ireland and southern slovakia would be on my list of places to go...because these are some of my nationalities haha. and really want to see germany, because allot of my musician friends seem to reside there. ooo that would be fun! i do get a discount to travel slovakia from my slovak lodge...i guess i'd have to start there, since they have a good rate and everything is included. but i don't know how sitting on a plane that long will be for me. i have got ants in my pants and like to keep it moving. maybe that's why they serve in-flight drinks...
Re: Holiday
You'd love England Ginn! Everyware you go there's History! Within 10 miles of my house there are 3 castles an 11th century Abbey and a 12th century Bishop's Palace! The first house I bought was next door to a 15th century merchant's house! A little further up the road are several Iron Age Hill Forts and on Dartmoor (about 20 miles away) there are the remains of hundreds of Bronze Age roundhouses and villages. I love Archeology so my part of England is a great place to be
Re: Holiday
hey that sounds awesome!! you are lucky to live in such a historic town. that would be so cool to wander around places built so long ago. i just think of how much work it was to build back then, before the hi-tech equipment we have now. it's really impressive to me. even in my own city, i like to admire the old architecture and i find it's amazing these old buildings still stand strong.
the 'carlton' side of my family(english) came to america when some of the first perminent settlers came about. they came on the on a boat now referred to as the "fortune". i'm really into my family's history. i have to look and see what towns we traced back our ancestors to...though it was soooooooooooo long ago. i think it's why i am so tall, all my english ancestors were 6ft +.

Yeah, I've been to quite a few of them Ginn.
Here's a link to a map of all the English counties so you can see where Yorkshire is. http://www.itraveluk.co.uk/maps/england/
I live in the county of Devon on the South coast. Yorkshire is a long way up!
Re: Holiday
hey! thanks for the great map! i like how clean and defined it is. yep...all the way up and on the opposite side! but london and surrey isn't to far from you. i'd love to visit london. my friend and i met an english tourist in the bar the other night. she was like ooooooooo he has an accent. haha it was magical sounding, but i was hangin with a dude from nepal talking about nonsense etc. all the world travelers that come here and students that study here seem to like the 'river north' area of downtown chicago. i can literally meet people from all over the world in one night...it's alwaysssssssss super fun getting to know folks.
Re: Holiday
didn't mean to hijack your thread, by the way...just a fan of travel and love to learn new things(from the source)!!

Tinkinswood Burial Chamber.
Chambered Cairn in South Glamorgan, Wales,UK. This chambered long cairn is covered by an almost rectangular mound, which has a stone cist half way along the northern side. It has a forecourt to the east created by the horns of the cairn, allowing entrance to the main burial chamber. Built around 6000 years ago in the neolithic period. The brick pillar inside was put there in 1914 to help support the huge capstone which has cracked. The capstone weighs 40 tons!

Re: Holiday
Here's the next installment of my venture into Wales.............
Castell Coch (English: Red Castle) is a 19th-century Gothic Revival castle built on the remains of a genuine 13th-century fortification. It is situated on a hillside near the village of Tongwynlais, in the north of Cardiff in Wales. Designed by William Burges, it is "the most spectacular example of (that architect's) translation from High Gothic into High Victorian.
