Basses Empty Basses

Post  ftlpope Sat Apr 16, 2011 6:55 am

Hi guys here is my latest hobby and the results – 3 Fender style basses made over the winter from parts bought from eBay and other places. Although I recently replaced my stolen 1978 Jazz bass with a new MIM one, I wanted to do an expensive home version. The pale natural one is it. I accidentally ended up with a copy of a real one that looks like this and can be seen on youtube. Made of mahogany and Danish oil finished by me. Apart from needing to be set up, I think it is near perfect (the seller of the bespoke body (Hefner, California) cheated me on the one piece body – it is 2 pieces and he will not pay up the difference. It weighs a ton. The Precision is fairly standard except for the maple neck. The other Jazz was an attempt to see how cheap it can be done (not very cheap mainly because of internet postal costs). The finish was an attempt at sunburst using dyes – OK but not perfect – I call it rustic sunburst. The first 2 were used on that tune I posted the other day. Enjoy. ftlpope

Nice gear!

I rebuilt my ESP bass. It's a deadly combo of black, gold and red now.

The V looks amazing Dace - how is the design done? Paint? Inlays? Binding?
