Re: Dean - V
Killer guitar....I like Vee's....with a Floyd Rose Trem even better
Big headstock on the Dean's....I have heard that is supposed to help the sustain.
I can't believe that they would put in a crap pickup on a guitar of that quality....what on earthwere they thinking ???

I think the guy who had it before me switched pickups.
The bridge pickup is a Dimebucker. That's probably STOCK.
And it probably had another Seymour Duncan in the neck position.
I am guessing he took out the neck pickup, and put in a junker when he sold it.
The body and headstock are HUGE! I have a lot of trouble not slamming it into the mic stand
when I play it....

Re: Dean - V
I thought you bought it new....that makes sense it would have had a matched pair of SD's

"Accidently" bought it at a Music-Go-Round while I was looking for a Les Paul.
Once I turned the corner and saw it, and made sure the neck was ok, it was game over.
(Music-Go-Rounds here are like pawn shops for gear. But they test everything before they buy it
and don't sell total crap).

Re: Dean - V
Just checked out http://www.musicgoround.com Bloody Hell!! Wish we had something this good here in the UK!
Guitars for less then 38 quid!!! ($59.99) Man are we getting ripped of in the UK or what???
There's been quite a few pawn/second hand shops open in our area recently but all their used guitars are priced at just below what you'd pay retail for a new one. And I know for a fact they buy them for next to nothing!

Re: Dean - V
Here's the Dean with the SD Invader installed.
Not wired up yet, but it will be soon.
Going to run this one at C# tuning (down 1 1/2 steps from standard on all strings).
(which was pioneered by Black Sabbath / Iommi)
And going to use Beefy Slinkys on it and 4-springs on the whammy.
I'll do PUP sound samples once it's together.
That's the Dimebucker at the bridge position.
You can also see the corrosion on the whammy and the ring screws (but the whammy still works great).
Guy before me must have sweat like a banshee.
You can also see the "speed knob" for the bridge pickup.

Re: Dean - V
Apparently the pickup that you removed was probably the original pickup as the spec says that it was a Seymour Duncan at the bridge and Dean Humbucker at the Neck.

Looks like you made a very smart upgrade although I can't think why Dean would'nt fit a pair of matched SD's as original.

Re: Dean - V
Its a copy of Dimes Guitars (kinda), so stock pup in neck. He did not use that pup at all.
Will sound WAY better Z..
Looks SUPER.

Yeah, I think you are right. The wiring looked stock. And the color of the wires coming out of the
neck PUP was the same as the Dimebucker (red, white, green, black, bare).
Kind of surprised the stock humbucker was unmarked. Usually they say the brand on the bottom (like the Epihphone ones).
Must be a cost saving measure on their part.
It definitely sounds WAY WAY better now. The Dimebucker is very bright--almost like a single-coil. And the
Invader is real beefy.
I will post a sample soon of the different sounds....
And that guitar at the link is exactly the one I have. I am thinking it's a 2004 or 5.
Made in Korea. Serial number 07080558 (apparently the serial doesn't have the year in it for these models).
The finish on it is very tough. And the neck has a bit of a V shape to it instead of a U shape.
