A song wrapped around a couple of dropC riffs....
The Strat on lead this time.

A bit less wall of sound this time.

do you want to
move with the sound
do you want to
spin me around
do you want to
open my heart
do you want to
I want you

do you want to
cling to me now
do you want me
to show you how
do you want to
lay in my arms
do you want to
I want you

do you want to
come over here
do you want to
nothing to fear
do you want to
wrap around me
baby you can
come set me free

Good song Z.

Its a good mix on this one with the vocals and guitars all nice and clear and balanced.

Good vocals on this ....very Zappa in style IMO.

Nice drop C riff played with good staccato feel to really drive the song and the Strat blends in nicely too....not so harsh as the Tele.

A little concerned about the drums.....again it feels too mechanical with no fills. The conga type drums don't really feel right to me in this track although they create some variation. The pattern does not seem to synch with the rhythm. I would have preferred some snare fills or toms.

Its not glaringly obvious.....but hell you know I'm fussy about these things Smile

Thanks Peter! Fussy is good!
Yeah, I agree about the drums for sure.

Main problem is I can't find the proper fills in my loops. I REALLY need to find some Tom and Snare runs
or learn to program them better. I want Tom, Snare, Kodo, and Tympani fills....

I also think the bottom drops off too fast for the lead break. I need another measure or two of fade
before that comes in so it's not RIGHT AFTER the words.

Glad you like it overall. It's a little different than I am used to doing....

I am going to go looking for fills since I can never seem to find any I like in my loops.

Will be remixing this one at least once....

Z.....I thought you had a drum machine????

Could you not sample the patterns and fill patterns and use them?????

If not and you are in desperate need I could sample some of mine if you let me know what you need.....problem is time...as always Smile

Great idea Peter!
I do have an Alesis SR-16. I just got pissed at it because I couldn't get the programming
part to work right.

I could def. play fills on it and record them.

I will try that!

Oh, and I downloaded all the drum loops at the link Dace sent out while it was still up.

Programming songs on drum machines is very time consuming.....I don't do that.

I've been looking at using my Zoom drum machine and was recording patterns into my HD recorder but that created a problem with midi sync.

As you record into your computer you can simply record a pattern as a sample and time stretch adjust it if necessary......although if you record at the right tempo there will be no need.

I need to sync my synths to the drum patterns and you cannot trigger the patterns using midi.....bummer.

You can use all the drum sounds like a synth module but that means writing your own patterns.

However I found out how to do it this week.

I have to set the tempo on the Zoom the same as in Sonar and slave Sonar to the Midi Clock in the Zoom.

Press Record in Sonar....and it waits for the pattern to start so when you press Play on the Zoom it will record the midi notes of the pattern as it plays. As it is now a midi pattern in Sonar (after trimming it to fit the Bars) you can copy it and Paste it and mix it with other patterns like fills and intros to make a song.

You can also edit these patterns and make new ones by adding or removing parts like say...dropping out the kick drum.

You can also add extra beats or cymbals in extra patterns.

Even better....you can have 2 kits set up on different Midi Channels so you can add Ethic Percussion in .

So as you can see Drum machines can be really useful when you find ways to control them Smile

Good info!
I have this one:
http://drums-percussion.musiciansfriend.com/product/Alesis-SR16-Drum-Machine?sku=705531&src=3WWRWXGB&ZYXSEM=0&gclid=CMW-jM7h56YCFQTrKgodNX5h0A

I think I can do tha same thing in Logic (slave it to the midi of the drum machine).

If not, I will pick my tempo, and "Play the drum machine" (pick rhythms and hit the fills manually)
and record the output. Then I can layer everything else on top.

That gives me some things to try!
Thanks!

I have LOTS of drum kits in Logic as well. So once I get the midi IN, I can pick a different drum kit.

Z......the pattern may only work with your drum machine as all the drums are probably mapped differently.

Where there is a snare drum on your drum machine allocated there may well be a different sound in your Logic drums.

You can of course move the lines of notes around in your piano roll editor.

My advice......just experiment and find whatever works best for you.

I have only just started re-using my old Zoom RT323 because it has great sounds and patterns.....particularly for rock.

It has some great kits so if I want to use it for ambient I can always write my own patterns in Sonar.

I also have lots of drums in the Roland JV1080 or I can make my own loops from samples using FL Studio where I also have Groove Agent installed.

Loads of options......but at the moment I shall probably work with the Zoom.

Hi Z,

My heart says that the drums are little bit dry and the Bongos or Congas are sometimes jumping from the Beat but the Atmosphere from the Song is very Great :)You have a Good Voice, you Voice is Mystic Smile
