Sweet River Dream (SG Demo)
Just showing off the stock pickups in this one.
Rhythm is SG neck pickup through the Marshall on clean, 50% drive, EQ flat
Both lead parts are the bridge pickup through the Marshall on overdrive, 50% drive, EQ flat.
The lead parts each have big reverb but a different kind on each one.
everything just improvised.
not really a song, but you can hear what the PUPs sound like.

Thanks! I hit a few wrong notes, but what the hell....
And this is 'just tuning it and playing'. Haven't changed the setup at all.
Outside pics coming soon. In the Great White North.

Re: Sweet River Dream (SG Demo)
Nice sounding guitar Z......I seem to remember you used this a lot before you got the Tele ??
Personally I think this would work better than the Tele as a lead with the X on your metal tracks with a bit more OD and sustain.
The sound is quite similar to my Flying V which I guess has similar type PUPs.

Thanks Peter!
I just got this one, but I used to have a Gibson SG Faded (the low-end Gibson without the paint job and such).
I sold that one a couple years ago to get the X. But I love SGs so I couldn't stay away long.
I agree that this thicker sound is the way to go for leads through the Marshall for metal.
(the Dean works pretty well for that too, but has a Dimebucker in it which is higher output).
I will probably be putting some style of P-90 pickups in it. Maybe a P94T.
The stock ones it has are a little muddy for me, and there is some distortion in them (I think)
that I don't usually here coming through the Marshall.
I might downtune this one to DropC and tune my Ibanez back up to A440 (since the Ibanez has 24 frets it will
work good for me to play leads with). It has Dimarzio D-Activators in it, which are quite nice.

Re: Sweet River Dream (SG Demo)
I posted this before I saw your post about the SG in the Gear section LOL.
I knew that you had an SG and as soon as I heard you playing this track it immediately sounded like your old sound that you had before.....that shows how good it is
Never had an SG but I do like them...........nearly bought one when I bought the Jaguar instead ....it was an early 70's walnut model with a Bigsby trem......don't like those ugly old Bigsby trems and that particular guitar didn't have a good sound. Sometimes you find that happens even with the best makes.
Also in the shop at the time (1980) was a 1964 Gibson Les Paul Junior double cutaway which I liked but when I looked carefully some of the origanal parts had been changed so it was not original. The Fender won and I have no regrets at all. I played them all in the shop through an old Vox AC30....nice amp and a good test.

Just don't leave that Jag unattended..... I know where you live! (Kidding -- but it IS a treasure).
I don't have any vintage guitars.
I grew up a HUGE Tony Iommi fan. As far as I'm concerned he invented modern metal with "Children of The Grave"
(which is in C# tuning).
My favorite thing about SGs is the set neck and the sustain. Body shape is nice too. And I love mahogany as a wood choice.

Re: Sweet River Dream (SG Demo)
The Sabbath influence does come across in a lot of your songs Z....so an SG is an obvious choice for you
I like a lot of their music but a particular favourite is the title track of the first albumcalled "Black Sabbath"......I love its dark doomy atmosphere.....but they made so many other great tracks too.

Set Neck.....Mahogany Body.....Great sustain........you gotta hear my Greco LP Custom yet.....now thats one heavy dude

I'll bet! Way thicker than an SG!
Looks awesome too.
