Re: Just like
hey buddy!
even when you are bored something really cool happens, listening now and its making me feel good.
I need that now.
Yeah things certainly aren't like they used to be on the net, heck we had our time, but it sure seems to me
that if one stays around long enough they fade into the wall and get less and less. I got maybe 3 reviews
during December and many so called old friends have not listened or contacted me in over a year. no biggie,
I got over it, but it saddened me still.
My true buddies are still around and believe me thats the only thing that keeps me around.
Dace, you may have heard my swan song, you're a special friend to me so that makes it fitting.
I may be taking some time away from the net and music but I'll be in touch with you guys and a few others.
on another note, I have a Mackie spike recording interface for pc. Its yours if ya wants it!!

Re: Just like
I kinda thought youd like this.
I use a Yamaha AW1600 16 track recorder for all my tracking and mixing.
then I transport the stereo mix to my pc via USB and use wavelab to finish things.

Rick..BLOWN AWAY! Much more than "happy"...Shit man! You helped me out so much. As Z has, and alot of people. it means SO much to me because for YEARS i was the one helping people. I remember how good that felt. I still do, but cant do what i once could helping people out. But HEY! I got Mike all ready to go recording, feels GREAT to help him. It means a TON to him. HELL if we cant help each out, whats the point??
I canr wait to come see you and Z also. ASAP im THERE! That is something i want more than ANYTHING right now. I want to go see my friends. And im going to very soon.
OK Rick...Im shot-out and overjoyed..HOPE i can sleep...
Its strange Rick...these lyrics are about what just happened here. SO much they are!
And thats what i was saying about uploading....This all happened from music. We do it from passion, its rewards are not what we think they will be most times, but they happen. Its an artist-connection i feel...We "hear" each other with our soul, NOT our ears. It magical, and wonderful Rick.
OK...love allways WINS!
Thank you Rick.

Hey Rick......I use a Yamaha AW2816 16 track recorder. It doesn't have USB.....its earlier than the AW1600 so I have to burn it to a RW CD to get it into the PC.
Its a cool machine though.....it was quite an upmarket expensive piece of kit in its time....it has the motorised faders that can do an automix
Re: Just like
Posted my review on the Mix:
Another cool song from DACE. Great guitars mixing sweet clean sounds with a sustained lead that cuts through like a laser.
Strong drums on this track driving the beats and the whole mood is set by the emotional delivery of the vocals.
Another good one DACE......sorry so late....been spending too long in the GEAR section !!!!!!

""motorised faders""" Coolest gear shit there is for me! LOVE those...You know FENDERS CyberTwin Amp has them...you hit a preset, all the knobs move to the setting.....AWESOME! Its allmost scary!!!! KILLER AMP! I had the delux once, but it did not have moto-knobs.. Great Amp tho. Traded it for a MARSHALL halfstack.
They dont make that Amp now. Should have stayed with that one.

You can preset your mix settings for each track and the faders move into place.
More professional than that......you can record fader movements into an automix and play the mix back and the faders will move as you play back the mix.....you can even do this in stages.
I never use the automix.....I can't be bothered to learn it.....but one day I will try it out .....it could be cool

That is pretty cool Peter, you're the first I've met online whos also has a Yamaha recorder. I love mine because its closer to old school
than PC recording. Mine does not have motorized faders though, now that would be a nice feature to have.

Re: Just like
This is it Rick:
http://www.yamahasynth.com/products/recorders/aw2816/
Its an older model than yours .....basically a compact version of the AW4416.
The mixer section comes from the legendary Yamaha 02R mixer which was state of the art when it was around.
I prefer recording this way myself playing things in live or using a sequencer with synths. I still prefer hardware although like you I finish the tracks and master them in Wavelab.
I use whatever works best

Re: Just like
Peter, that is really a nice piece and loaded with features. I do like that hands on approach.
Hey, I use wavelab to do my mastering also, I have ozone as a vst plug in. Its fun to play with
the settings and hear the sound change..really dont know what i'm doing so i just listen.

I also have Ozone and I know that Z uses it as well. As an all in one mastering tool it works well but I often use other things too. My favourite is the PSP Vintage warmer.
Playing with the settings and listening is really all that should be necessary IMO. Over the years your listening develops the necessary experience so that you know when sounds hit the right spot and you become a fine tuned machine. Thats my approach to mixing and mastering.
I have heard CD's put out by some smaller recording studios where a band has been mixed and mastered in house and the results have been awful. That's because the sound engineer has given a totally flat mix and consequently the track is lifeless.
As a musician you know the sounds that you want and you can get them by tweaking everything until you get it ......or sometimes you find something better.
Thats what I like about hardware.....it gives you that hands on control.
I have spent some years doing this with synths also..............VST's are fine but hardware is still the best.
