Windows 7 ???? Empty Windows 7 ????

My new computer is running Windows 7.

Must admit my first impressions were good.....a nice clean and faster system with a good layout.

But be warned........lots of your older software and hardware may not run on W7 as it is 64 bit.

For instance my Epson printer CD will not recognise the printer .

This can be overcome as there are updated drivers and software on the Epson site but I just thought that you should be aware of this if you are looking at a W7 installation as not everything will work.

It takes a lot of time and effort to get things back to running as they were on XP although when you do its worth it in the long run.

Again any cracked software will also often need to be rerun with the keygen.

Of course none of you use these prorams Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile

32bit software should run ok in a 64bit operating system Peter. Which version of Windows7 do you have? I'm sure there is an XP mode in the Pro version.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium which is the standard system in most new home computers.

There is an XP Mode in the Pro version of W7 but that would need an upgrade.

There is a Compatibility Wizard in my version which works on some programs but some of the early XP or even earlier programs may be a problem.

So far I have got most things to work but when you open some of these older programs you might need to either run the wizard or assess if you need the program. I did not install all of my programs by disc but transferred them using a High Speed USB transfer Cable and PC Mover software which can import programs complete rather than just files and also adjusts the W7 registry.

They do warn you that you might have problems with some of the older programs and need to re install them but it did a good job overall.

I have had to get updated drivers and software from the Epson website to get my printer recognised .....there was a special patch.

I also had to re-install my MOTU Express 128 channel midi box for 64 bit as it could not recognise it.
The installation disc already had this option and prompted me to use it.

So its not just software but some hardware also needs to be configured.

It can all be done......but it is time consuming.
