the more I look at vintage prices for beat to hell parts, the more a kit looks like an option....

Yes, i agree.
I allways wanted to try a Kit...never did it.
Might order a Tele for Xmass.
Any thing you dont like, you can change out easy.
This company has been around years. Heard good things about them.
You might look into the CARVIN-BOLT- KITs Z??

Yeah, I know some people that LOVE those Carvin Bolts.
I'm kind of leaning toward just getting a body and neck.
If I buy a kit, I know I will want to change the pickups and tuners and wiring anyway....
Still hoping to stumble on an old Les Paul or SG for parts. But everyone knows if it's
old they can get $1000 for it even if it's beat to hell.

YEP!..
You could send me the cheap parts? And get some nice pups, keys, ect.
STILL a great pirce for a new body and neck.
I think it looks GREAT wood color...But some clear coating would help.
Or a light PRSish stain job??
Super looking body man!

Re: Another Kit Option
It looks like they already clear coat the bodies, so most people are painting them
rather than sanding that off so they can stain them.
The Carvin Kits are higher quality (and more expensive)

If I do end up swapping out parts on anything I will send them your way

Re: Another Kit Option
Yeah, I would be looking to build something along the lines of:
PRS, LP, or SG
And if I had "all the money" I would go:
mahogany body with flamed-maple top (PRS, LP or SG shape)
maple-neck with rosewood or ebony fretboard. trapezoid inlays.
2 humbucker pickups (maybe P-90s or a Pearly Gate and something else)
This site has high quality parts. You can get a body or neck made any way you want
(but at high-$$$)
http://www.usacustomguitars.com/
I doubt I would ever part with the Strat.... it's too nice.
