Had Z SAVED a few tunes by Mastering them for me.
One is a collab with the OUR SANCTUM guitarist (Mike Partin)
Mike wrote the words and did lead.
I sang and did main guitar.
Its called (MIND OF RELEVANCE) NOT a OS BAND tune..Collab!

The other is one of mine that is rather epic, not in lenght really, Sound was bad.
..but the sound is now great from what it was.. Z fixed that pretty good.

I think he is mastering differently now??? Sounds alot better than the past ones to me.
(I am giving him a weaker level mix) so that might help some.

Z?? what ya doing to them???

Z's latest Skin Deep album is mastered really well.

If you will forgive the expression.....He has mastered the mastering !!!!!!!

He is using Ozone 3 which gives excellent results....I use it too.

I also use a other things as well Ozone 3 though.....maybe z does too.

I have a plug in that gives some extra pressure on Rock tracks over and above what Ozone 3 can produce.

I have also recently used a Stereo Expander that creates a wider mix that sounds great through headphones.

I used these on the Stargazer album.

I have masses of production plug ins that I have hardly touched yet.....one day I'll get to try some out Smile

Yes, Ozone is great.. I hear alot like and use it.

Z is just doning whole-mix masters.

Most time is just normalize my tracks, and that it..No EQing or anything.
I feel things get lost. It sounds better, and its clearer when edited or mastered, but things get lost. And i only do the master if there probs with the track overloading, or its muddy, or to much lowend.

But im thinking on doing some exporting of tracks, (vocals) into soundforge and cleaning them up some..then put them back in my mix. Should help.

Z sent me a nice mic, need to get cord for it. that might help the vocal sound also..Its an AKG 98 i think?

AKG make great stuff.

I do all of my mixing through AKG 271 Studio headphones. They are completely flat response with no colouration on the sounds for accurate monitoring.

They are used by the BBC so you know that makes them top quality Smile

I am mostly using the Ozone preset "4-Band Rock Master with Widening and Excitation" although
I modified the settings a bit.

What it does is separates the track into 4 bands, and then it can do real small delays on those
bands to make things sound wider and add clarity.

It also does compression and limiting to make the mix hotter (but it doesn't compress the crap out
of it like a dance track).

So there is EQ in there, harmonic exciter, compression, widening, and limiting.

I can also look at the waveform in the EQ and even things out a bit overall.

That's exactly what I thought you were using and it works very well.

However for a super kickass mix I have used that then gone again to my PSP Vintage Warmer and using a modified preset of my own I then add "Extra Pressure" which brings it even more to life and adds a little warmth to the mix.

Recently I have also used a Stereo Expander to widen the mix too......it does a better job than the one in Ozone.

Ozone is great though and covers most peoples mastering needs .......I just like to get that little bit extra squeezed out of my tracks . Smile

Perhaps I should mention that before my tracks even go into a computer they have already been compressed and EQ'd where necessary in the mixdown process from my HD recorder which has everything built in.
