I might buy a Fender Telecaster.

I've always shyed away from them, because I associate them
with twangy country songs--which I detest in general.

But, damn, they play pretty nice, and I've got a hankering to buy one.

Probably a cheaper MIM one, used, but...

OMG! Z is tempted by the dark side of "twang"! Step back from the tele...breath slowly...relax and concentrate. Center yourself...find a vintage Ibanez Talmon! Think about those lipstick pups and that cool retro 'flake finish. They even came with bigsby's for the ultimate cool! repeat after me...Talmon talmon talmon (continue until the tele thing has passed). Shocked

Hey Kerry! lol!
Yeah, those Talmon's are cool!
And I'm kind of an Ibanez freak Cool

At the moment my pyramid of electrics is:

50th Ann. Strat
Ibanez Xiphos
Dean Razorback Dime Flying V
Ibanez Artcore (which I might be trading in)

Here's a pic. You can only see the edge of the strat though.... it's a tobacco sunburst with gold hardware.

Something I never thought I would say.... Geetar10

I think the only logical thing to do is get one of each.... Smile
Then you can have them when the wife kills me.....

Yeah, I tend to trade in a guitar for a different one about every year.

I wasn't going to go Tele, but the guy said he would throw in a Cowboy Hat, Rattlesnake Boots, and change my name officially to Conway! Shocked

Would Love to visit! Hopefullly next time I am out there. I was there not too long
ago, but couldn't get away because of the situation with my grandma (she's 96
and not doing well -- well doing pretty well for 96 I guess).

I haven't forgotten the offer. Hope you are doing well too.

Rumor has it Sonny T was the original owner (former Bass Player for Prince).
Not sure I can prove it, but he was playing it left-handed (upside-down but not re-strung)

It's in pretty good shape and sounds real sweet. Just need to put new strings on.

Yeah, I know what you mean! I was worried that he had messed up the nut when they told me he
moved the strap peg to the other horn and was playing it upside down. But he never touched it.

There are a couple of small issues I need to fix with it. The bridge does not seem to be grounded.
I can't find a ground wire, or a hole where it would come through, but the electronics look stock.

But I can fix that easy enough.

I put a sample song I did last night up. Just a quick jam, with a one take lead.
No mud with these pickups.

And for $200 (after trade-in) I am smiling....

You should PM me your mailing address Kerry and I'll send you an Atomic Force Records sampler CD set Very Happy

Z....that Tele changes your sound completely. Will be good when you use it with your other guitars for contrast.

My first decent guitar was a 1973 Fender Tele cherry Sunburst with a maple neck.
I also had a CSL Japanese copy Tele which was quite good.

I sold the CSL and the Fender was traded in against my old Fender Jaguar.

The Jaguar is very versatile with its pickup combinations and can sound like a Tele using the bridge PU even getting the twang. I have used that for rhythm and it sounds almost the same as your rhythm part on your track.

Nice!

I used to have two tele's, a '72 Thinline de Luxe and a Squier JV '83 or '84, can't remember.. sold them both in financial disastrous times, did a lot of recordings with'm, that JV screamed like nothing else...

Oh oh... I feel bad again....

Never found something that even comes close to those two pale pale

btw, Did you know that the lead in Stairway to Heaven is a Tele?

I did not know that (about Stairway)! But it makes since. They do ring nice and clear.

I hear you about gear gone by.... I'm sure every musician has a list of instruments they wish they
still had.

I didn't know that the lead on Stairway to Heaven was on a tele....and to be honest I found it hard to believe...but Wikipedia confirms this.

Apparently Page used a 1958 Tele that he used to use when he was in the Yardbirds on the original recording of Stairway. When the song was performed live he used the now famous Gibson twin neck guitar and that was because it made it easier to switch from 12 string on the early part to lead on the solo and faster section.

The Wiki page gives a fascinating and detailed description of how this song was put together and is well worth reading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stairway_to_Heaven
