Going to post pics as I go on this....

Here's the body with the stock PUPs removed.

SG Rebuild Img_3216

And here's a side-view of the PUPs.

As you can see, the rings are different. The neck pickup ring is quite a bit thinner than the
bridge pickup. So it's going to be tricky for me since the creme rings I got are Gibsons, and they
are both the thickness of the bridge ring on the Epiphone.

And, of course, the screws holding the PUPs in are different sizes (because of the rings being different).
So I have to make sure not to mix them up (but that's ok. I'm pretty careful doing these things).

Might have to stick with the black rings until I figure it out.

The PUPs came with new pots and hardware. The only thing it didn't come with is
a new rhythm/lead switch, so I will just leave that in the guitar.

As you can see, the PUPs screws are gold colored too

Oh, and you have to use the new Jack -- because you need to wire it to turn off the PUPs when you unplug
the guitar (that's why the jack has two connector spring clips).

Yep...Hard to buy rings withour seeing them in persone on there fit.
MOST times it works out, and i sure did not think you would have a prob with this setup...but, o well...Happens, there cheap.

By staying with the black plastic, you would not need to change the knobs, or the neck-plate thing. And would still look great with the gold hardware added.
Just think the cream would give a classic-vibe, and NON-standard look. And look more high-end.

I really like the NO-gaurd look tho Z.
Makes it look sleeker...something.

Its gona be SO much better..Smile

Pretty good pix also.... Cool

Thanks! I can always change rings again when I find the right ones.
Like you say, they are cheap.

Personally I think I like the black with the red paint......its all personal choice but black gold and red just look super together.

Those pickups are expensive....well they are in the UK....and should be a major upgrade soundwise to anty guitar.

Expecting great things Z Smile

Yeah, the pickups are pricey. But about the same as a pair of P-90s and they are a lot
more versatile.

One thing I love about putting Active pickups in an SG, is that it gives you EVEN MORE sustain,
because active pickups use smaller magnets (because there is a preamp in the pickup). And smaller
magnets mean less string-damping.

This baby will SING.

(the pickups were almost as much as the guitar -- LOL -- wait 'til the wife finds out.... Shocked )

I think the Black/Red/Gold might work too. Will try it that way first.

Both pickups mounted, wires run through body, and old wiring pulled out.

If I leave the black rings, I might have to go with some of those cool gold/black Q Knobs Dace posted about.
That would kick some major ass.

Z....You will be blown away by the Q-knobs, if you get them!
They just FEEL SO GREAT..Very smooth. They have a JEM like look also.
I got my first one fro Butch in Dalton for my LOTUS. 2 Days later a ordered another one off ebay...Red top-chrome..With NO guitar in mind!! Like them THAT MUCH!
There HIGH a shit! I paid 8.00 for one...and was 11.00 from ebay cause of shiping.
Be allmost 40 bucks on you..BUT!!! DO IT! There just hard to put in words.
Been YEARS since a product hit me SO good.
LOVE Q-knobs!
Its really MORE the FELL and VIBE they carry.
ONE FEEL, YOUR HOOKED!
Another cool thing about them, there low-profile..Tad shorter than most speed-knobs.
As long as it says "Q Knobs"....your good.
They even come in a cool save-able box, with allienhead..Smile
I have both my boxes...Smile
Ordering more in a few weeks, and picking some up from Butch also.

Tell ya what..You buy them, dont like them, ill buy them from you..Smile

I ordered some other type for the WARLOCK..they look great and all, but NOT the same.

Will do. Yeah I found them a few places.

I just hate cheesy plastic knobs.... so I will get them for sure.

And I like set screw knobs instead of push on. They are easier to take off without
prying up and risking damaging the paint.

One piece at a time.... Cool

Might do the wiring tonight.... it's pretty easy.

Controls mounted. No wiring yet.

You can't really see it in this picture, but I labeled the pots:
BV (bridge volume), BT (bridge tone), NV (neck volume), and NT (neck tone).

I always put the Bridge Vol and Tone closest to the strings. Since I use the bridge pickup
the most....
