Since all my gear is in a pile at the moment, I think I'm
going to re-arrange things so it will be easier to do some
micing and video work.

So the guitars might come off the wall since I might put everything against that wall
and such...

Stay tuned....

Will do. Part of it is clearing some space. Need to get an extra shelf and computer desk
out of here.

One step at a time...

I have found with small spaces its good to go UP with your items. Leaves more floor space. I small space is best for making music..I like the control room alot better than the main room for recording.

Here's the "before" shots.... big mess... LOL

The room is about 11.5 feet square.

In this shot, you can see the east wall. The computer desk on the left is where I will move this computer.
The metal shelf unit will come out of the room entirely to free up space.
On the bottom of the metal shelf is the Windows computer, which is only on when I upload to Kunaki.
Studio Rearranging Img_3114

In this shot--south wall--you can see the closet (which is where my amps and PA was before), and
the door into the central heating room. I don't want to put everything back in front of the closet since
then I can't get in there.
Studio Rearranging Img_3115

This shot is the west wall--currently the wall of guitars. I think I will use this wall as the back wall.
It gives me more width, and will make it easier for micing things and videoing things. It will also
mean that my amps are pointed east, toward the main room in the basement and toward my back
yard (instead of north like they were which points them at the neighbors house).
Studio Rearranging Img_3116

This view looks at the NW corner. that's where my computer is now, and the keyboard and such.
I plan to clear all this out and relocate the computer more in the middle of the east wall where the
other computer desk is now. You can also see part of this big bookshelf on the right. That will either
come out, or go on the east wall too.
Studio Rearranging Img_3117

This is the view looking out. The door to the room is in the SE corner. You can see the other end
of the big metal shelf unit, and the door to the heater room. rainstick and tripod are behind the door.
Studio Rearranging Img_3118

This is the NE corner of the room. printer is currently there, and the bookshelf faces that way.

This might make more sense. Top view of how I want it to look.

The old way was with the PA and amps in front of the Closet Doors, facing toward the top (North).
Because of the doors I couldn't have the PA speakers very far apart.

I could put the computer in the middle, but it would be in the way and wires would run through the middle
of the room. this way I can put the wires against the wall.

Maybe this weekend.

True. I will be out of town again until Sunday, up at the lake with the kid.
Probably the last time this year. It's going to be 83 up here today. Might set a record.

It doesn't get all that cold down there in the winter, does it?
You just use a little electric space heater?

I tried to do a video last night, but I couldn't get the mic input on the camera thing working right
(couldn't play loud because everyone was asleep).

I'll probably do one today.

DUDE! Laughing It gets VERY cold here! Gets in the teens alot. In the 20s most days all winter. Very cold here.

But yes, the control room is small enuff i get by with an oil-filled-heater. Those work good in small rooms, and dont suck much power.

Wow, that's not much different from here. Except we always get a week or two in January where it
stays below 0 the whole time (and we get a lot more snow I expect -- I think we average about 56" a winter).

We got like 6 snows last year, but dont get much, inch or two.
We stay in the mid-20s most of the time. Pretty cold.
Burn ALOT of wood each year...mmmm maybe 4 cords of wood a year, or more.

You know down at the bottom of my driveway, by the mail boxes? 2 of the home/land owners clear-cut this year..Smile so TONs of wood there this year..Just pull over and load up. My stove is small, so i just cut up small stuff, about 3 to 4 inch a round, about a foot long. I just use a skill-saw now days. Did the cainsaw thing for years. But i dont need big logs, so this works better.

ANYWAY....This has nothing to do with your Studio..LOL. Laughing Laughing Laughing

If i had money, i would drive up for a week and help ya out. The bass traps and defusers i built work great, and very cheap, and removable. It would help your space alot. when you come down, ill show you mine, how to put them up, and you can get the stuff where i got it and take it back with you. Its cheap, easy to install, and will give you a way better sound in your room.

Cool. Yeah, I will get there a little at a time this winter.
Easier for me since I hardly ever play loud in there. Vocal isolation and having a good video setup
is taking priority at the moment.

I'm temped to haul my shit up to the lake a few times and record up there live and loud in the winter.
The neighbors won't be around, so it should be fine.

And I think the wife is going on a few dance trips, so I can do some feedback sessions then too....

No worries about making it up here. I'm going to be swamped at work until Jan the way it is looking....

Yeah, youtube can be a pain.
I never had to talk to them. I just make sure my video is less than 10 minutes and upload.

You Tube now allows 15 minutes per standard video.........it changed quite recently Smile

I've never had any problems with them and never needed to e-mail them.

So far I've done:

1. move my computer to the newer computer desk on the east side of the room. That will be directly
across from the amps and such, which will be on the west side, facing east.

2. move the old computer desk upstairs and put the wife's compute on it (her computer was perched on a
bunch of books and old speakers).

3. move a bunch of gear out into the main basement room so I have room to shift things around.

4. move the bookshelf against the NE wall, so it's not in the way.

To Do:

1. Take all the stuff off the west wall (guitars, guitar mounts, shelves, CDs, artwork)
2. clear the west side of the room so I can setup the amps and PA system
3. setup the amps and PA system
4. run wires from the live rig to the computer so I can record again
5. sort and organize cables, CDs, artwork,....

Amps and Speakers moved back in.
Probably will set up the PA Mixer on a table to my left, where I can reach it easy
from the computer.

Whew. Most of the heavy lifting is done.
As you can see in this shot, the amps and PA are in place, and I have
piles of junk all over in the middle of the room.

So now I need to go through all the piles and sort things into categories (cables, electronics, CDs, garbage).
That is going to take awhile.

But once I'm done the whole middle of the room will be clear, and I can wire everything back together again.
I should be able to hang a green-screen (cyan sheet) on the back wall behind the amps for doing some simple
video overlay work.

I think I will have the keyboard near where it is now, but out a ways and facing the other way.

Stay tuned...
